Just another Edublogs.org weblog

its all about the points (enjoy)

Alright, well if your okay with making c’s every quarter and being one of the 8 who made an F on the midterm read this.

- Easiest way to get points, BLOG. Yeah its weird and annoying at first, but it can be helpful and fun sometimes. Just do it, its 50 points a week do the math, you have them every week so every two weeks that’s around 100 points. Her rare test are around 100 points. If you do the blogs and follow directions you don’t have to worry so much about the tests. Oh dont wait til the last minute. First semester we all waited to do them Sunday night then she made one of them due Friday and the other monday. So do them when you have free time.

- Use pen

-Vocabulary, yeah you cant just write stuff down because she ends up checking them for accuracy so that can screw you over if you dont do them. Her vocab quizes are very strange so you have to understand the word, not just memorize the definition.

-Do not bank off of spark notes for reading quizzes and class discussion, spark notes will get you like 6 -13 and bad grades like that. You have to read and understand what your reading for the class to work.

Try not to argue with her, just push through it all, do work, listen or act like your listening. Dont spend most of the year trying to figure out why stuff happens the way it does and why your doing certain stuff, your just gana have to do it. As the exam goes, yeah good luck. Same with the tests. READ, BLOG,CARE,LISTEN,CONTRIBUTE,PARTICIPATION POINTS

ros and guil intresting title

Well, so long rosencrance and guildenstern as they are sent away to England where they are supposed to get killed. Im guessing this is the time when everyone is going to start to die because well Polonious is dead as i type this and ros and guil and gana get it. However there is a lighter side in the story with the comedy play. I dont know, but i wonder if a break from all the death and dying with the comedy play is a postmodern element. Like a break from the serious actions that are going on. Im also not sure but i think all the death may be a post modern element.

I see more and more how ros and guil kindof look past things that are easy to see and understand. Missing the mark or looking past the obvious stuff. They almost make things mroe difficult than they have to be. To me, thats what there problem is if they have one. I wonder how these two would have been if they had not been together the whole story. Would they have similar ideas or do there ideas connect off of each other and they would not have been as succesful or interesting. Just thoughts that kinda cross my mind. So longggg shakspear boyzzz

Mista Ros and Guil

So, during the reading, i got to a part where i had to glance away from my book because i was kindof shocked and a little confused. The thought never crossed my mind until now, but i cant help but wonder or think that theres a chance that Rosen and Guil are homosexual. Meaning they like the same sex that they are, they are boys so they may be attracted to other boys. They always are together, have simlar intrest and can basically finish each others sentences. Also after they were licking there hands and toes, they started to worry that somene may walk in on them. I wouldnt have thought much into it until they said that. So maybe licking hands and toes has a different meaning??

So other than the idea of them being gay, i also started to see simlarites between ros and guil, and Hamlet. I thought it was cool how i could read Hamlet and then in my reading of ros and guil, i was able to read about the Hamlet plot. Its hard to say what im trying to say. When reading the Hamlet play, we get the plot from one point of view, throught Hamley or other characters, then when i read Ros and Guil, i was able to see the similar plot based actions but only through Ros and Guil. mhm

Lagniappe

Exigence- In my opinion i feel this is the halfway point of the story and Hamlet is feeling completely overwhelmed with everything and just has to spill it all. It is a good point in the play to get the audience back into Hamlet and bring out the emotion.

Audience- Hamlets primary audience has to be towards the people who feel they are lost and depressed with life. His secondary audience has to be the people are deep thinkers and like to analyze life. These choices of audience actually make up a large group of the people who come to see the play. They were probably happy to see there emotions put to life.

Purpose- Hamlets speech is there to draw the audience back deep into the play. I feel it is there to show that Hamlet cant take anymore of the overwhelming emotions he obtains. It was the last water drop that poured everything out of him.

Appeals- Ethos, his speech appeals to Hamlet because it is deep in meaning like the way Hamlet is. Also Pathos because many of the lines pertaining death and life and very emotional and appeal to interest of the audience which would be a common interest of life and death.

Figures of speech, imagery, diction, syntax- Hamlet uses lots of imagery. He compares lots of ideas he has to common ideas of life and death. I think the images of confusion and feeling of emptiness towards death stand out. I liked his simile of the afterlife being like and unfounded country. I don’t think these images really do effect his rhetorical purpose, if the do i guess they help him prove a point he already knew he maid.

In response to his soliloquy i gained some respect for him. I see what he feels and is going through and i acknowledge it, he must be feeling completely crushed and alone. He sure likes to think about death alot and the after life, but don’t we all? He does a great job of making himself vulnerable and human again. His soliloquy basically set down his armor.

“sigh” to be or not to be

To be, or not to be–that is the question
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them. To die, to sleep–
No more–and by a sleep to say we end
The heartache, and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to. ‘Tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep–
To sleep–perchance to dream: ay, there’s the rub,
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause. There’s the respect
That makes calamity of so long life.
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
Th’ oppressor’s wrong, the proud man’s contumely
The pangs of despised love, the law’s delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of th’ unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? Who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscovered country, from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all,
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o’er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprise of great pitch and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry
And lose the name of action. — Soft you now,
The fair Ophelia! — Nymph, in thy orisons
Be all my sins remembered.
My line by line interpretation
To stay alive, or to kill my self, that’s my debate
Or is it better to just sit and think about it
All the ups and downs in life
Or should I just man up and fight my troubles
Do let the troubles go away in my sleep
We say they go away when we sleep
But it always come back to hurt us
Everyone still comes to the final day
We all wish to be there, until we sleep
To sleep when we dream all is well sets us back
We wonder what happens after we die
When we leave our mortal form
However we pause and respect out life
This makes life so confusing
Who would want to go through all this
The bad things we do
The love battles
All the politics and insults
But we learn lessons like patience
When I myself learn this
With a easy way out, who would stay in?
With all the hard works of life to come
But we fear what happens after we die
Like and unknown country
No one has come back to tell us what it is
This lets us worry about what it really is
But some of us try to explore it
Some cowards try not to explore it
It sometimes seems so easy to solve
It makes us sick to think about
It takes away from the moments of life
Resulting in some people ignoring it
And not taking action on it

Ros and G 2

Well, i still have trouble understanding what all there saying, but i can kindof pick up that the story is now going somewhere as Ros and Guil are both pretending to be Hamlet. I think that they are doing this at first just to be funny and entertain us, but then i starting to think and understood that they were doing it to try to understand why Hamlet is acting the way he was.

We know see a relation to how those two connect in the Hamlet story. I still however get mixed up with both stories and often times mix some ideas up in my head. I feel that trying to trick Hamlet by spying on him is bad because its disfaithful and they could easily just talk to him if they feel like they are friends.

summer

Well im going to do a cliche free post this week and just write about how excited i am about summer and all my plans. Im looking forward to summer this year, one for summer workouts for football, two a lot of golf, and three maybe a little baseball mixed in there. We have summer workouts for football three days a week, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. All we do is agility works, lift weights, and then run. The first week is hell but after that, i start to get in a routine and don’t mind it. You feel so good when your done, its a strange feeling. Plus you build bonds with the people your around because your all equally suffering.

Come weekends tho when ever ive served my time in hell, i will be free to do just about anything. My dad will even let me drive down to our fishing camp with some friends and go fishing, that’s a blast. However the times when im not fishing i will most likely be working on my golf game. I plan on trying to play in a few tournaments over the summer and practicing just about everyday. Golf is the one sport that you can drastically improve just through practice. Im excited to travel and play different golf courses and spend lots of time with old friends catching up. Its also going to be a little sad because this seems like the last summer of my childhood. Next summer im going to be preparing for college and to move away, i don’t want to think about that. Its pretty sad since im the last child. Til my next post, im michael rutland??

Drama and what i know about it

When i think of drama or hear the word drama, i automatically think of dramatic, like modern day sop operas. These may fall under the genre category but they are not the Shakespeare drama that i should be thinking of. So, what do i know about drama, Shakespeare, hamlet and plays. Uhm i don’t know to much about Shakespeare because i don’t really like his work and only acknowledge his stuff once a year when the Englishclass I’m in studies his work. I know he writes in a very unusual way and that he is obviously good at what he did. I now he wrote hamlet and lots of other plays. Hes pretty famous.

Hamlet, Macbeth, and all those other Shakespeare plays tend to blend in my mind. However i know that in my drama class freshmen or eighth grade year we studied his works. We acted out Rosecrans and Guildenstern are dead, and even did a little Macbeth acting. It was fun and that started my general knowledge of Shakespeare’s work. Plays generally are acted out before written down, like typically a play will occur then there lines will be published. Most literature that we study from back in the day were plays at some point or can still be transformed into a play.

different english paper

Im still struggling to figure out how im going to make this paper different than any of my others. First off, we all have been writing papers for the pat 5 years, and each time we are supposed to try and write them differently that any we have before. So i have decided to reach a compromise with my delima and just write it different that any other paper have written this year. I plan on trying to have fun with it by being very deep and detailed about my information. As if im writing a paper like im a 7th year senior in college for my final to get my masters at Harvard.

I think im going to hit this paper from the side and try and blow it out the water pretty much. I feel that my topic, which i will not display due to copy write laws, is pretty strong and should give me alot to write about and a lot of ways to go about writing. I have some strong ideas and believe that i can interepret them well and unlike i have with anything else this year. It should be pretty decent and be a strong paper. Something that would make Mrs Duke go, wow.

Phew

I sure am tired after spending 13 hours of a Sunday in the middle of Opolusaus, Louisiana trying to play a practice round for the most important round of golf in my life come Tuesday. I’m not gana lie, that’s all i can think about. Well that, my playoff baseball pairing, my ACT score, and my English paper :) . Out of 9 golf teams, we have to finish in the top 3. There are mainly 3 schools in the tournament that are worth their smoke. Episcopal High School of Baton Rouge Louisiana. Dunham High School, and the Louisiana State University Lab School.

Here lies a few of the problems we face as a team. Dunham is really good, probably top two in all of 2A. They definitely have one of the top three spots locked down. That reduces out odds to 2-8. I like those odds since like 3 or 4 of those teams contain players struggling to break 100. All in all, we most likely should have a spot locked down securing a spot in Alexandrea for the knights. I still cant help but feel all of the pressure going in to the round. I need to shoot well because our other two guys are very inconsistent. Our top 2 will shoot outstanding either way, but it looks like it will all come down to what i do. Never been more nervous in my life.
